Madden '10 Site Live, Cover Athlete Unveiled April 24th

The official Madden 2010 website has launched noting that the 2010 cover athlete will be unveiled on the day of the NFL draft, April 24th. Geoff Keighley has mentioned on his Twitter that GameTrailers TV will have the world exclusive debut of the game the night before, on April 23rd.

The game is set to release August 14th and you can check out two videos of potential cover athletes Adrian Peterson and Ed Reed over on the site. The Madden team will debut a new candidate every week until the unveil and will post videos of why these players would make a great cover athlete.

“At the heart of Madden NFL 10 is the Fight For Every Yard. Who wanted it more? Who executed? Who left their heart and soul out on the field? The best players in the NFL are those who epitomize this fight and strive to dominate every snap of the ball. It takes this caliber of star to grace the cover of the Madden NFL franchise, and over the course of the next few weeks, we’re going to profile 9 candidates that are up for the cover of Madden NFL 10.”

Head on over and check out the new site and some cool new articles (including one by Peter Moore), and check back each week for a new cover athlete candidate video.

In its ninth year of sales the Playstation 2 has had a very long life. Sony is looking to make it a bit longer with the announcement that the PS2 will now retail for $99 (starting April 1st). E3 2009 kicks off officially in L.A. on June 2nd but once again Microsoft will hold their annual keynote the day before on June 1st at 10:30am PST. Nintendo will follow on June 2nd at 9:00am PST and Sony will round out the keynotes on June 2nd as well at 11:00am PST.

E3 2009 has returned to it’s full glory from years past and promises to be a big show. Microsoft has already teased that they will start showing some games that may be a bit further off, and you can be sure Reggie will Wii-fit his way to the casual Nintendo conference with some kind of big game announcement (hopefully for the hardcore). Stay tuned for more news on the event as it gets closer!

M-rated Games vs. R-rated Movies, A Look at Content in Modern Media

The video game industry is quite different than any other media industry. People seem to have a much harsher view on gaming, as well as mature content in the games, than they do about any other modern media. Let me start off this new GPU editorial by giving you the problem. Content that is fully acceptable in R-rated movies is considered outrageous in M-rated games. Should not the M rating mean virtually the same as the R rating? To purchase M-rated games you must be 17, to view R-rated movies at a theater you must also be 17, yet the scrutiny and analysis differs quite a bit from one medium to another. Why does this happen, what can be done to change perceptions, and how will this content work in future games? These are a few questions I hope to provide suggestions to in this article.

Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 Coming 11/10/09 (Update)

UPDATE: An official press release sent out this morning has confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 will not be using the “Call of Duty” prefix. This suggests that this may be the possible spin-off Infinity Ward had hinted at last year. Does this mean an actual Call of Duty is coming this year? With Activision’s plans to put out multiple games from the same series this just may be so.

The GDC ‘09 awards just wrapped up and they finished with a bang. The very last video of the night was a teaser for Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The teaser is below, and at the end you will see the game is set to launch on 11/10/09.
