As we mentioned last week sneaky shoppers spotted a tag on best Buy’s pre-order cases for inFamous stating that those who purchase the game will get a key to be involved in an Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta. Today Naughty Dog by way of Playstation Blog has confirmed this as well as released the first footage of multiplayer action from Uncharted 2. The beta for Uncharted 2 multiplayer will begin on June 3rd, and you can get in by buying inFamous on May 26th.

“It shouldn’t be a surprise that we had to grow our studio to tackle the task of creating fully-realized multiplayer and co-op modes that would live up to our own high standards and do the UNCHARTED universe justice. I’m incredibly proud at the excellent work our team has done so far and it shows in the solid gameplay and incredible polish of the little slice we showed press last week. And if you’re dying to get your own hands on it, don’t worry, we’re having a multiplayer beta! It starts on June 3rd and you can get access to it through vouchers in inFamous, which goes on sale May 26th.”

(Insert Crackdown joke here). Be that as it may, I love the idea of coupling great games with other great things like betas. It looks as if Sony’s “shocking” news for Monday has come a bit early (unintentionally); Kotaku has just dropped the news that according to Best Buy pre-order packages for inFamous, the game will come with a token to get into a beta for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves’ multiplayer. This could be a great chance to see if the multiplayer in Uncharted 2 will be just one of those additions that should never have been added, or a true, fun multiplayer component.

inFamous looks to be a great game in itself, but the addition of a beta token for one of the most anticipated games of 2009 most certainly will not hurt. No official word yet if the beta is just for Best Buy pre-orders, but we can assume that it will before anyone that buys inFamous. We will update you on Monday when Sony drops the news themselves.
