God of War Collection Coming to PS3 This Holiday

The Playstation Blog is reporting today that the God of War series (games 1 & 2) will be coming to the PS3 via an enhanced BluRay disc, and will run in 720p. The set will be coming this holiday season for a price of $39.99 and will feature both games reworked for the PS3 hardware.

“We are excited today to announce God of War Collection,” said Scott Rohde, vice president, Worldwide Studios America. “Our fans spoke and we listened; thanks to our partnership with Bluepoint Games, fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic God of War and God of War II saga in stunning 720p on PS3. This Blu-ray Disc compilation brings Kratos to PS3 even earlier than expected.”

This is good news if you are like me and have waited to purchase a PS2 in the hope that some of the top games will make their way to PS3 via disc or PSN.

Peter Molyneux has been busy this morning at GamescCom in Germany. He has just dropped the mega-bomb that Fable 3 will arrive in 2010 and the story coincides with the images of revolutionary leaders that have been appearing on Lionhead’s website. You will play your son/daughter from Fable 2 and lead a revolution to become the ruler of Albion. See the full trailer below.

Also announced, Fable 2: Game Episodes will contain the entirety of Fable 2 broken up into chunks, look at it as a trial of the Full game. The first episode will be free at the end of September and then players will have the opportunity to buy more episodes or even the rest of the full game. If you happen to want to pick up the full game at retail your saves will transfer over.

Kmart's PS3 Slim Ad

As you can see in the ad above, another of the industry’s worst kept secrets may have been let out of the bag a bit early by K-Mart once again. Rumored to be coming at Sony’s Gamescon press conference today, the PS3 slim (and regular PS3 price cut) may be a reality after all.

The link on K-Mart’s banner ad on their front page (here) only takes you to three regular PS3 models, but we can expect that to change after Sony’s 10:30am press conference in Germany. Stay tuned to GPU for the news when it happens.

Update: Sears now has the slim for pre-order at $299.

GRIN Studios, the folks behind games like Wanted: Weapons of Fate and Bionic Commando has officially closed its doors today. Kotaku has the following information on the closure:

“In a letter from GRIN founders Bo and Ulf Andersson, the CEO and director, respectively, write that “too many publishers have been delaying their payments” to the developer, ending the 12-year-old company officially. The Anderssons lament their “unreleased masterpiece that we weren’t allowed to finish,” going on to thank their partners and the publishers who apparently did pay them.

Rumors of GRIN’s demise began popping up earlier this week, with studios Barcelona and Gothenburg shutting down and the imminent closure of the company’s Stockholm HQ. That followed reports of cutbacks earlier in the year, not long after the developer’s Bionic Commando and Terminator games failed to inspire sales.”

Out of the ashes of GRIN has arisen Outbreak Studios, created by the lead programmer from GRIN, the studio plans to focus on download only games.

Left 4 Dead Crash Course DLC

Just when you thought Valve was done with Left 4 Dead and ready to move to the controversial Left 4 Dead 2 new DLC is announced! Coming to the original Left 4 Dead, Valve has just announced “Crash Course” a new campaign set in between the “No Mercy” and “Death Toll” campaigns.

“While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of “Crash” is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game’s existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.”

“Crash Course” will release in September for 560 MS points, so no need to sell that copy of Left 4 Dead just yet!
