Scribblenauts E3 Demo

Scribblenauts is a very interesting game for the Nintendo DS. The game itself is a very simple concept, go through levels of puzzles and try to get the star in each. What makes this game so different and outstanding is the means to which you can get the star. You can type in literally any word and that thing or object will come up on screen and do something in your environment. Need to get the star out of a tree, try typing in elephant and then see-saw, make the elephant catapult you to the star. If you can think it, you can use it. Check out the IGN E3 walkthrough below.

Lego Rock Band Announced by MTV Games/Harmonix

MTV Games, Harmonix, and a slew of other publishers have announced Lego Rock Band coming to Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS in 2009. The games are being developed by TT Games in partnership with Harmonix and will “allow families, tweens and teens to experience a wild journey to rock stardom where they can ‘Build a Band and Rock the Universe.’”

“LEGO Rock Band combines the multiplayer music experience of Rock Band® with the fun, customization and humour of the LEGO videogame franchise packed with brilliant chart-topping songs and classic favourites suitable for younger audiences, including:

  • Blur: “Song 2”
  • Carl Douglas: “Kung Fu Fighting”
  • Europe: “The Final Countdown”
  • Good Charlotte: “Boys and Girls”
  • Pink: “So What”

Looks like a great game for family gatherings, but we do feel the need to ask where we draw the line in the music genre. Is there really a need for so many music games in one year? This genre seems to even be putting EA sports to shame.

Nintendo DS Sales Top 100 Million Units

Nintendo DS Sales Top 100 Million Units

The Nintendo DS was first released in 2004, and here we are a mere 5 years later with news that the portable has eclipsed the 100 million unit sales mark. I am seriously beginning to think I may be the only person still without one (or one of each color for that matter). With Nintendo updating the hardware every few years (DS Lite in 2006, and now the DSi in 2009) it is easy to see why the portable continues to sell in mass amounts. The games have been a big part of the sales as well. Nintendo’s press release states that as of December 2008 there were 83 DS titles, of which 7 topped 10 million sold.

So what is next for the DS? The reigning sales champ Gameboy, with 118 million units sold, is in the DS’ sights. Although it took the GameBoy 16 years to reach that mark, which means we could see the DS top 300 million in the same time span if the sales stay regular. Nintendo truly has the handheld market in the palm of its, well, hand.
