Many of you may have come to GPU when we were in full swing after the transfer from our original blog and followed news and updates when possible. As of late you may have noticed the fact that the news and articles have been few and far between. Fear not! We are not abandoning our creation, or your ambitious quest for everything gaming related, we are merely pondering the future of the site and the direction to take.

News is news, if you want video game news you can go anywhere on the internet. There are many sites and blogs (many much bigger than us) that report on the news fast and efficiently. The result of this is that many smaller blogs (such as ourselves) get crushed under the massive weight of these sites, and get pushed out of the way trying to keep up with the massive influx of news daily. This is the main reason we have decided to take a deep look at GPU and try to come up with new, fresh ideas for the site that take the spotlight away from the news angle.

We have many ideas floating around, and want to feature our insight to the world of gaming rather than just rewriting a press release or news story and slapping it up, so stay tuned. In the near future a new version of GPU will bring you more personalized information, more opinionated articles, and overall a better niche feel. We don’t want you to come here just to see a news story, we want you to come here to hear what we have to say, and share your own opinions on what this industry holds.

So keep an eye on GPU, we are working towards something great and you will want to experience it with us. Thanks for reading!

Portal 2 Co-op Gameplay Teaser

Valve has been releasing Portal 2 videos left and right the past few days, and today they have dropped the co-op teaser that debuted on last week’s GameTrailers TV. Portal 2 is shaping up to be one of the best Valve games yet not only in looks, but also in gameplay complexity. Enjoy!

Bungie’s swan song to the Halo franchise is a mere 6 weeks away, but we have yet to see very much information at all on how the last days of the planet Reach are played out. In the new trailer dubbed “The Battle Begins” clips from the campaign show we still have a lot to learn about one of the major stories in the Halo universe.

Kaos Studio’s “Homefront” Debuts Compelling Alternate Future

A unified Korea, outrageous fuel prices, financial collapse; all of these are things that are quite possible in the near future. In THQ and Kaos Studios’ newest game “Homefront” these are all realities in the world of 2027. As Korea has unified under one flag and begun spreading the Korean Republic, the United States is in turmoil and when a Korean satellite knocks out the United States’ power grid, the war has begun.

Kaos is the studio behind “Frontlines: Fuel of War,” a game that had some issues but told a great story. Check out “Homefront” in the new trailer below.

Valve is top notch when it comes to advertising their new and current games, so it comes as no surprise that their latest snippet draws from one of the classic all time commercials, Apple’s “1984.” The trailer announces that Half-Life 2 will make its way to Steam on Mac tomorrow, 5/26/2010. Enjoy the video and go play one of Valve’s best games tomorrow on Mac!

Halo: Reach “Birth of a Spartan” Live Action Short Coming April 27

Microsoft and Bungie are set to debut another live action short, this time to promote Halo: Reach. Set to debut on multiple U.S. and European television networks, and before Iron Man 2 (which opens May 7th), the short is called “Birth of a Spartan” and will give an inside look at the Spartan III program and how Carter 259, a central character in Halo: Reach became a spartan. This process has only been described in the Halo novels, so it will be very interesting to see the live action video.

“The highly classified bio-augmentation procedure is a Spartan candidate’s final and most difficult ordeal before joining the ranks of the legendary soldiers. The dramatic interpretation of Carter’s rebirth as a Spartan embodies the themes of courage, sacrifice and honor in “Halo: Reach” and gives viewers a unique look into the origins of a central character in the upcoming blockbuster game.”

This week is the premiere of “Birth of a Spartan,” a live-action short directed by award-winning director Noam Murro. Airing on multiple U.K. and U.S. TV networks and also showing in cinemas across North America, “Birth of a Spartan” is a stirring depiction of the transformation of Carter 259, the future leader of Noble Team in “Halo: Reach,” from an ordinary young man to a superhuman Spartan warrior.

The highly classified bio-augmentation procedure is a Spartan candidate’s final and most difficult ordeal before joining the ranks of the legendary soldiers. The 60 second ad short premieres in the U.K. on Tuesday, April 27 via Sky Sports 2 at the full time whistle of the Champions League semi-final between Lyon and Bayern Munich. Watch it live or on demand on Sky Player, Sky’s online TV service on Xbox 360 via Xbox LIVE. And if you miss it, catch it again on Wednesday 28th April on ITV 1 after the Champions League Semi Final between Barcelona vs Inter Milan. The short will also air on multiple shows across sixteen other U.K. and U.S. TV networks, including Comedy Central, Spike TV, Bravo, FX, TNT and TBS.

The short will be available on www.welcometonobleteam.com on Tuesday, April 27 at 5.00 am GMT. In addition to being able to view the short, users can also upload a photo of themselves and get an image created of them as a Spartan III. On the following day a special, extended two minute 30 second version will be available for download on Xbox LIVE exclusively for Gold members. The ad short will also premiere on April 28 in cinemas across North America in select theaters with screenings through the opening weekend of “Iron Man 2” and concludes on May 13.

“Birth of a Spartan” was directed by Noam Murro, the director of the 2008 feature film “Smart People” and numerous award-winning ad spots for Toshiba, Saturn, Volkswagen and more. The recipient of the Director’s Guild of America’s 2005 Director of the Year award, Murro was also recently named the U.K.’s #1 director by Campaign magazine. For production of the short, Microsoft partnered with Biscuit Filmworks Co., a production company Murro founded in 2000.

Developed by acclaimed studio Bungie, “Halo: Reach” launches this autumn exclusively on Xbox 360, and is available for pre-order today in standard, Limited and Legendary editions. The “Halo: Reach” multiplayer beta, which is poised to be the definitive Xbox LIVE event of this spring, kicks off in one week on May 3. Players can access the beta via the “Halo 3: ODST” campaign disc.

Halo: Reach Special Editions Detailed

Major Nelson has just dropped the details on the three editions of Halo: Reach coming this fall. When Halo 3 arrived in 2007 the editions came with some disappointing packaging, but it looks as if Bungie will rectify the situation this year. When the Legendary edition launched in ‘07 it was supposed to be a limited quantity, needless to say I think you can still find a so called “cat helmet” around your local game store for around $70. The Reach Legendary Edition looks as if it will be actually limited, coming with a custom molded and hand painted Noble team statue. The three editions include the normal version of the game, no frills here, a Limited Edition, and a Legendary Edition. See below for the details!

Gears of War 3 Debuted, Coming April 5th 2011 in US

Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski had his late night debut on Jimmy Fallon last night to debut the studio’s next major project, Gears of War 3. While it may have been one of the worst kept secrets in the gaming industry after an Xbox 360 Dashboard ad gave the game away last Thursday, the Gears 3 trailer shows that Epic can still produce good trailers. As for the game, you don’t get too much of a glimpse here but you will notice a female soldier as well as a few new weapons. The game is set to launch in the U.S. on April 5th, 2011 and in Europe April 8th, 2011. Enjoy!

Former Infinity Ward Heads Form Respawn Entertainment

Finally a bit of closure in the Activision versus former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella case. The duo have opened a new studio named “Respawn Entertainment” under Electronic Arts’ EA Partners Program. The move comes right off the heals of West and Zampella being fired from Infinity Ward, a studio they created, for insubordination. As a fitting jab EA offered this line in their press release:

“The move positions the Respawn Entertainment leadership team as the owners of the intellectual property they create.”

Respawn Entertainment is currently hiring to fill the studio’s roster with “a world-class team of designers, artists and engineers,” any interested can apply at jobs@respawn.com.

The move is certainly a jab at Activision, but was something many had predicted. We will soon find out if West and Zampella can recreate the magic they had at Infinity Ward and create a new franchise to claim their spot in the industry once again.
