Modern Warfare 2 is Call of Duty Again
Robert Bowling of Infinity Ward sent out an interesting tweet via Twitter today showing the, hot off the presses, boxes for Modern Warfare 2. Earlier this year it had been confirmed, or at least we thought, that the game would be dropping the Call of Duty name in an effort to push itself as a new IP, that does not seem to be the case as you can see in the image above.
Honestly, what’s in a name? The change will mean nothing to the actual game, but it is interesting that Activision decided to add Call of Duty back to the game, maybe they just could not accept a year without a Call of Duty game.
Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 Coming 11/10/09 (Update)
UPDATE: An official press release sent out this morning has confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 will not be using the “Call of Duty” prefix. This suggests that this may be the possible spin-off Infinity Ward had hinted at last year. Does this mean an actual Call of Duty is coming this year? With Activision’s plans to put out multiple games from the same series this just may be so.
The GDC ‘09 awards just wrapped up and they finished with a bang. The very last video of the night was a teaser for Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The teaser is below, and at the end you will see the game is set to launch on 11/10/09.
RUMOR Debunk: Call of Duty MW2 List Discredited
Yesterday we posted up a list of potential Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 details said to be from a tester and found on the NeoGAF forums (Story), turns out the list has been debunked by Infinity Ward programmer Rayme Vinson (via 1Up). In a post on NeoGAF Vinson says the list was made up.
“”People. This list is fake, I mean; I can’t get into how-much-if-any is true, how much is false, etc (there’s a reason why companies “don’t comment on rumors”… it would NEVER F***ING END), but this list wasn’t put together by anyone with any insider information. There’s also some craziness that should red-flag this as “stuff I made up and wrote down” (like grass camo for snipers… that’s straight out of CoD4 MP).”
While some of the information may end up being true, the list was just made up by someone hoping the changes are made. Another rumor debunked, another job well done.
RUMOR: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Details Leaked?

A poster on the NeoGAF forums (Bumblebeetuna) has put up some interesting information, apparently a post was put up on the Twitter suggestion page for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that was from an alleged playtester with details about the game. Sure I would just look the other way and condemn this as a fake as well, but the poster was banned and the post was deleted immediately. Take the list below with a grain of salt, but it is interesting.
CoD MW2 Details:
*Vehicles will be in MW2
*M16 will return, using stopping power will only be OHK (one hit kill) at head, neck, and torso (abdomen, limbs, and hands/feet will not)
*Ak47 and M4 will return, unknown if there are any changes
*M40 will return, ACOG damage boost will be fixed
*Scorpion, P90, M21, R700, G3, G360 will not return
*There are more unknown weapons that will not return
*New sniper rifle: SR25M (United states forces)
*New Assault rifle: Diemeco C8 (Canadian forces M4 equivelant)
*New Assault rifle: L85A2 (United Kingdom forces)
*Total weapons in multiplayer are said to be around 35
*Favourite Modern warfare 1 maps will return
*Helicopters, air strikes, UAV will return
