Rockstar Debuts Max Payne 3 Screens

Max Payne has taken on a few years (and a few pounds) in the newest screens from Rockstar. The slow-motion action hero of the self-titled first two games is back for another go-around and this time has left the dark alleyways of New York City behind for a more desolate, sunny location. As you can see from the screens below, Max has found his way out of the United States altogether and is sporting a look similar to that of Jeff Bridges in Iron Man. The game seems to carry that Rockstar look to it and you can bet there will be plenty of slow motion diving sequences. Max Payne 1 is still one of my favorite games (red line room aside) so I am anxious to see what Rockstar does with the third installment.

Rockstar Announces Max Payne 3 for Winter 2009

Take-Two and Rockstar Games have announced Max Payne 3 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC coming this winter. Mark Wahlberg will be nowhere near the newest installment in one of my favorite game series, and Rockstar Vancouver looks to make the third game even more gritty.

“We’re starting a new chapter of Max’s life with this game,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation.”

The story is set to follow Max after leaving New York and the NYPD behind as he is “trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.” You can visit the official site here, but there is not much up yet. Stay tuned for more on Max Payne 3!

Jack Thompson Beware, Lost & Damned Features Full Male Nudity

In an interesting news piece today (via Kotaku) it seems that Rockstar’s “The Lost & Damned” DLC for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV will feature a scene of full frontal male nudity. It seems Rockstar doesn’t think it will be a proper GTA-related release without some controversy.

Kotaku sets the scene:

“Stubbs, in his first meeting with lead character Johnny Klebbitz, is receiving a massage at the private gentleman’s club Jousters when we meet him. The Congressman, dressed in nothing but a towel, quickly becomes pretty comfortable with his new biker friend, choosing to deliver his monologue in the buff.”

While Jack Thompson and Fox News may not like this aspect of the game, it is rated “M” for mature for a reason. The ESRB has rated the DLC separately from GTA:IV and mentions male nudity in the rating. Parents, if you don’t want your kids to see this, do the right thing and don’t buy it for them so we don’t have to deal with you complaining to Fox News after they see it.

Today Rockstar has officially announced Red Dead Redemption, a sequel to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver. The game is set for a Fall 2009 release on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and is in development with Rockstar’s San Diego studio. The game is open world and set at the turn of the 20th century when “the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age.”

“Utilizing Rockstar’s proprietary Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), Red Dead Redemption features an open-world environment for players to explore, including frontier towns, rolling prairies teeming with wildlife, and perilous mountain passes – each packed with an endless flow of varied distractions. Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world’s last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it.”

With the game this far along in development you can be sure we will be seeing some media soon, Rockstar seems pretty confident that this game will be a great success. Stay tuned for more information on Red Dead Redemption!
