EA Brings “Don Control” DLC Multiplayer to Godfather II

The Godfather II has not even launched yet and EA has announced DLC to bring “Don Control” to online multiplayer. The DLC pack will hit on launch day (April 7 in N.A., April 10 in Europe) and be free of charge. Don Control takes the “Think Like a Don” element from the single player experience and applies it to the online environment.

“Don Control introduces an additional layer of gameplay on top of the four multiplayer modes and six maps already available in the game and invites players to compete to see who is the ultimate Don of Dons. Players can now challenge one another in 16-player battles for their in-game currency from the single-player game. As a Don online, players can recruit others to join their family by giving them a cut of the profits. But if a player loses as Don, the in-game currency they wagered will be removed in their single-player campaign and their empire can come crumbling down.”

The Godfather 2 Crime Rings Trailer

EA has released a new trailer for The Godfather 2 entitled “Crime Rings.” Here is the set up:

“As a Don in The Godfather II, you will be faced with many strategic decisions as you build your empire. Check out the different crime rings in the game and the associated in-game perks that will help you and your family in the action game with this new trailer.”

Godfather 2 Now Coming April 7th, 10th

After being delayed, the Godfather 2 video game now has a new release date. The game will ship April 7th in North America and April 10th in Europe on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.

“The Godfather II is taking the open-world genre in an entirely new direction by combining the furious combat of acting like a mobster, with the strategic gameplay of thinking like a Don,” says Hunter Smith, Executive Producer for The Godfather II. “As game makers, when we looked at what lies at the heart of the Godfather universe, we discovered a game focused around organized crime. The Corleones and all the other families schemed and fought to gain access and control of different territories, so that they could control the flow of money in those areas. This underlying battle cloaked secrecy is what The Godfather II and mafia life is all about, and we wanted players to be in control as a Don and make those strategic decisions to lead their families to success.”

The Sims 3, Godfather 2 Face Delays

Two games that were supposedly fast approaching have now been pushed back a bit. In a financial conference call this week EA CEO John Riccitiello mentioned that The Sims 3 and The Godfather 2 would both be delayed from release.

The Sims 3 will land on store shelves on June 2nd, 2009 for PC, Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch and mobile devices.

“The June launch combined with the break-through game the team is building gives us the perfect runway to create awareness for The Sims 3,” said Russell Arons, Vice President of Marketing for EA. “The Sims 3 will be the original IP summer blockbuster of 2009 as we build off the success of the best-selling PC franchise of all time to create awareness with both loyal Sims fans and new players.”

The Godfather 2 will arrive sometime during the 2010 fiscal year. EA said the delay will help create more buzz about the title that had been set to launch this month.
