Fight Night Round 4 User Videos

I managed to rent Fight Night Round 4 this weekend. At first I was skeptical of the new punch stick, but as I have played it I am totally blown away by how intense the game is. You feel that at any moment (even on easy) the fight could end one way or another.

One of the cooler features the game offers is replay editing and uploading to EA.com. I wanted to post two videos of replays I uploaded (these are in-game with me playing). Enjoy!

Rockstar Debuts Max Payne 3 Screens

Max Payne has taken on a few years (and a few pounds) in the newest screens from Rockstar. The slow-motion action hero of the self-titled first two games is back for another go-around and this time has left the dark alleyways of New York City behind for a more desolate, sunny location. As you can see from the screens below, Max has found his way out of the United States altogether and is sporting a look similar to that of Jeff Bridges in Iron Man. The game seems to carry that Rockstar look to it and you can bet there will be plenty ofslow motion diving sequences. Max Payne 1 is still one of my favorite games (red line room aside) so I am anxious to see what Rockstar does with the third installment.

A GPU Short: Marketing in the Video Game Industry

Ahh marketing. This topic strikes a chord with me personally because this past December I graduated with a degree in marketing. Once you begin to study the subject you cannot even walk through a grocery store without thinking why companies do what they do in terms of marketing and advertising.

In the video game industry marketing is a two-headed demon. There are a select few games each year that have a ton of hype and a huge marketing push even though they may not need, or deserve it. There are also a few games who fly under the radar and could use a simple commercial or preview to show how good of game it actually is. Marketers (whether you want to believe it or not) have a very tough job; You don’t market a game enough and it won’t sell, you market it too much and it may sell, but may not live up to the hype you have created. For this reason I put the challenge more on myself (as well as other gamers) to decipher which marketing you listen to or which you don’t.

If there is a game you are really excited for and know a lot about, don’t pay much attention to the marketing, go buy it based on what you know. In the reverse scenario, if there is a game that looks cool but you know nothing about, jump into some of that marketing and advertising to find out what it is all about.

Overall I think it is up to the gamer themselves to pick through marketing and decide which to listen to. This applies to gaming as well as life in general. Just remember, marketing’s ultimate goal is to make consumers aware of a product, not to sell it, so in the end it is really up to you what you do and do not decide to buy.

Scribblenauts E3 Demo

Scribblenauts is a very interesting game for the Nintendo DS. The game itself is a very simple concept, go through levels of puzzles and try to get the star in each. What makes this game so different and outstanding is the means to which you can get the star. You can type in literally any word and that thing or object will come up on screen and do something in your environment. Need to get the star out of a tree, try typing in elephant and then see-saw, make the elephant catapult you to the star. If you can think it, you can use it. Check out the IGN E3 walkthrough below.

Bethesda has announced today that the next installment of DLC for Fallout 3, entitled “Point Lookout,” will be available June 23rd on Xbox Live, PC, and PSN. The theme of Point Lookout looks swamp/back woods related and rather erie. Check out the trailer.
